
Shenna Bellows
Shenna Bellows is the Secretary of State of Maine, the first woman elected to that position, having taken office in January 2021. Before that, she served in the Maine Senate from 2016 to 2020 and was the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in 2014. Secretary Bellows grew up in Hancock and is a graduate of Ellsworth High School. She holds a B.A. in International Politics and Economics from Middlebury College. She volunteered with the Peace Corps in Panama and AmeriCorps VISTA in Nashville, Tennessee. Bellows has a long record in civil rights advocacy, including leadership roles with the ACLU of Maine and the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine. As Secretary of State, she has garnered national attention for decisions affecting ballot eligibility and election administration. She lives in Manchester with her husband.
