Mikie Sherrill
U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Navy helicopter pilot, former federal prosecutor, wife, and mother of four kids – Mikie Sherrill proudly serves as the Governor of New Jersey to make life easier and more affordable for Garden State families. Her career has been defined by service to her country and her community, inspired in part by her grandfather, a World War II veteran. After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1994 – the first class of women eligible for combat roles on ships and aircraft – she spent nearly a decade on active duty in the United States Navy. After her military service, Mikie earned her law degree at Georgetown and went on to serve New Jersey as a federal prosecutor. In 2018, she ran for Congress for the first time, building a grassroots campaign that drove an entrenched Republican incumbent out of the race and flipped New Jersey’s 11th District from red to blue—the largest swing in the country that year.
In Congress, Mikie has fought to make life more affordable for families—taking on grocery prices, child care costs, and Trump’s punitive SALT cap. In 2025, Mikie made history when she became the first female military veteran to be elected governor of any U.S. state. Mikie and her husband Jason, also a Naval Academy graduate, live in Montclair, New Jersey, with their four children. Continuing the family’s tradition of service, their eldest children are now serving in the U.S. Navy.
