
Joe Bushnell
Joe Bushnell is a proud Tacoma native, lifelong community advocate, and public servant dedicated to creating a city and state that works for everyone. Born to a refugee mother and a small business owner father, Joe grew up with a deep appreciation for resilience, hard work, and the power of community. Elected in 2021 as Tacoma's — and Washington State's — first Cambodian-American Councilmember, and currently serving as Deputy Mayor, Joe represents District 5, encompassing South Tacoma, the South End, and East Tacoma. As a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran, Joe served for over a decade. Joe remains deeply committed to grassroots community service and is passionate about fostering a more inclusive, sustainable city and state. Whether advocating for community priorities, representing Tacoma on regional boards, or lending a hand at a local volunteer event, Joe's mission is to build a stronger future for every resident.
