
Stephen Valentine
Stephen J. Valentine is a dedicated public servant and U.S. Army veteran who brings a lifelong commitment to service and community to his role on the Durham County Board of Commissioners. Elected in 2024, Valentine began his term in December with a focus on equity, veterans' advocacy, and justice. A graduate of Morehouse College and the University of Pennsylvania, he has combined academic excellence with hands-on leadership throughout his career. His service includes seven years in the U.S. Army, followed by impactful roles as a special assistant U.S. attorney, director of the Veterans Law Clinic at North Carolina Central University, and assistant professor. Valentine’s deep-rooted dedication to public service continues to shape his work on behalf of Durham residents.
