NEW POLITICS ENDORSES SARAH TRONE GARRIOTT FOR CONGRESS IN IOWA’S 3RD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
WASHINGTON D.C. (July 31, 2025) — New Politics today endorsed Sarah Trone Garriott for Congress in Iowa's 3rd Congressional District. Garriott, a mother, ordained Lutheran minister, and current Iowa State Senator, brings a proven track record of service and electoral success in competitive districts. About Sarah Trone Garriott
Sarah Trone Garriott’s call to service began as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Gallup, New Mexico, fresh out of college. It led her to serve as a hospital chaplain and become ordained as a Lutheran minister. As a minister, she served parishes in a small town, a rural community, and suburban Des Moines. Now she works to bring folks of all backgrounds together to help our neighbors in need at a local food pantry network, and serves her neighbors in the Iowa State Senate. As a Senator, Sarah is focused on ensuring everyone's voices are heard and recently championed bipartisan legislation to lower the costs of prescription drugs to help Iowa families afford the care they need. Sarah represents a swing seat in Suburban Des Moines. She is the only Iowa Democrat to flip two districts from red to blue — beating then Republican State Senate President Jake Chapman after redistricting drew her into a new seat in 2022 — and she held onto her seat even as Donald Trump carried it in 2024. From her service in AmeriCorps to her current work as a Lutheran Minister and Iowa State Senator, Sarah has always brought people together — across faiths, across parties, and across communities — to deliver real results. Now she’s running for Congress to make Iowa affordable for middle-class families.
