Veterans and national service alumni backed by New Politics pave the way to a Democratic majority in critical swing district wins, as James Talarico and David Crowley make history in Texas and Wisconsin.

WASHINGTON D.C. (November 4, 2026) — Last night, New Politics-backed servant leaders won at least 14 of the organization’s 20 House challenger races, flipping critical swing seats and helping deliver Democrats a resounding majority in the U.S. House. New Politics-backed candidate James Talarico became the first Democrat elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas since 1988, and David Crowley was elected Wisconsin’s first Black governor. All 10 House incumbents New Politics backed this cycle also won reelection.

Many of New Politics’ wins came in districts that few people considered competitive when the cycle began. New Politics invested early in high-quality candidates in those races, in many cases over a year before they received national attention, and helped them run robust campaigns to expand the map and appeal to voters across the partisan spectrum. Between July and Election Day, the Cook Political Report moved 14 of New Politics’ 20 House races toward Democrats, and 11 were rated Toss Up or better going into Tuesday. While Democrats ultimately over-performed all expectations, these districts provided the backbone for the path to the House majority.

Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:

“Democrats took back the House on Tuesday, and voters in Texas and Wisconsin elected two leaders that New Politics has stood behind since their very first campaigns. It was a great night for the party, but nobody should mistake these wins for luck. A year ago, many of the districts our candidates won tonight were written off as safe Republican seats, and no one in Washington was spending time on them. They came into play because voters met candidates who had spent their lives serving their country and their communities, and because New Politics was there early to help them build the campaigns to win. These leaders earned every one of these seats, and we couldn’t be prouder to see them headed to Congress.”

Tuesday’s results build upon New Politics’ work in 2018, when seven New Politics-backed candidates flipped Republican-held House seats and helped build a Democratic majority. Two of those members, Reps. Jason Crow (CO-06) and Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), were among the incumbents reelected Tuesday.

The New Politics-backed candidates who won on Tuesday are:

Statewide:

  •  TX-Sen: James Talarico
  •  WI-Gov: David Crowley
