WASHINGTON D.C. (June 26, 2026)New Politics today endorsed Sam Forstag for U.S. Congress in Montana's 1st Congressional District. Forstag is a smokejumper and union organizer who represents the service-driven leadership at the heart of New Politics’ mission.

Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:

“Sam Forstag has spent his career running towards fires to keep Montanans safe and fighting for nurses, teachers, and working families across the state. He was raised by parents who instilled in him the importance of public service from a young age, and he has carried that with him every step of the way. When the Trump administration came after public servants and public lands, Sam didn't back down. He organized and fought back. That's exactly the kind of leadership Montana needs in Congress, and New Politics is proud to stand behind his campaign.”

About Sam Forstag

Sam Forstag is a smokejumper and a union leader running to make sure working people have a voice in Congress. He was raised by a mom who picked up extra nursing shifts and a dad who became a public school teacher, both of whom made just enough to get by. For years, Sam worked across western Montana as a wildland firefighter, while organizing and advocating for public education, libraries, healthcare, and constitutional freedoms in the off season. When DOGE came after public servants and public lands, Sam fought back. Now he's ready to bring that same fight to Congress. Learn more at samformontana.com.
