NEW POLITICS ENDORSES LUKE BRONIN FOR CONGRESS IN CONNECTICUT’S FIRST CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
WASHINGTON D.C. (March 5, 2026) — New Politics today endorsed Luke Bronin for Congress in Connecticut's first congressional district. Luke has spent his career in service: as a Navy intelligence officer in Afghanistan, as a Rhodes Scholar, and as Hartford's two-term mayor who rescued the city from bankruptcy and led it through a pandemic. His track record of principled leadership exemplifies New Politics' mission.
Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:
"Luke Bronin has dedicated his career to tackling our country's toughest challenges with integrity and a commitment to the common good. As a Navy intelligence officer in Afghanistan, he witnessed firsthand how corruption destroys public trust and undermines democracy. As mayor of Hartford, he brought that same sense of urgency to saving a city from bankruptcy, investing in affordable housing, and keeping communities safe. Whether protecting families from predatory lending or leading Connecticut through the pandemic, Luke has always put service above self. That's the kind of principled leadership that Connecticut needs in Congress, and New Politics is proud to support his campaign."
About Luke Bronin
Luke Bronin served as mayor of Hartford from 2016 to 2024, where he led the city back from the brink of bankruptcy, drove record investments in affordable housing, created the nationally-recognized Hartford Youth Service Corps, and prioritized public safety. A Rhodes Scholar, Luke volunteered to serve as a Navy intelligence officer in Afghanistan in 2010, working on the U.S. military's anti-corruption task force. He served in President Obama's Treasury Department, helping create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to protect Americans from predatory lending, and later served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes. As General Counsel to Governor Dannel Malloy, Luke helped enact Connecticut's common sense gun laws and worked to end chronic homelessness among veterans. Learn more at broninforcongress.com.
