WASHINGTON D.C. (July 22, 2026) — New Politics today endorsed Callie Barr for U.S. Congress in Michigan's 1st Congressional District. Barr is a former teacher and veteran advocate who was inspired to work on behalf of veterans and military families when her husband returned from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat injuries. New Politics was founded to support servant leaders like her who put others before themselves.
Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:
“When her husband Matt came home from Iraq and Afghanistan with a traumatic brain injury and PTSD, Callie Barr stepped up. She became his caregiver, his advocate, and a voice for veterans and military families across Michigan. Callie understands deeply what working families across Upper and Northern Michigan are up against, and she's ready to take on the corruption that’s driving up costs and leaving people behind. New Politics is proud to stand behind her.”
About Callie Barr
Callie Barr is a fifth-generation Michigander, attorney, former teacher, veteran advocate, and mom running for Congress in Upper and Northern Michigan, where Callie and her husband, Marine veteran Matt, are raising their two daughters. After Matt returned from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat injuries, including PTSD and a traumatic brain injury, Callie became his caregiver and advocate, inspiring her work on behalf of veterans and military families.
