Dandiya’s record of delivering results helped carry the former teacher to victory in the primary, and positions her up for a hotly contested general election
WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 18, 2026) — Pia Dandiya, endorsed by New Politics, won tonight’s Democratic primary in Florida's 22nd Congressional District. Dandiya, who began her career as a Teach for America corps member before becoming one of the youngest high school principals in the country, campaigned on a record of delivering for students and families who needed it most. Dandiya’s race was recently added to the DCCC’s Districts at Play, making FL-22 a newly competitive pick-up opportunity for Florida Democrats.
Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:
“At 28 years old, Pia Dandiya ran a high school where the vast majority of students were living below the poverty line. Under her leadership, every single one of them got into college. That massive undertaking is all the proof Floridians need to believe that Pia gets results and will continue to fight for families in Washington. Congress would benefit greatly from her relentless servant leadership, and New Politics is proud to back her heading into the general election.”
