Retired Three-Star Admiral Nancy Lacore wins the SC-01 Democratic runoff, securing her place in the November general election in a bid to flip South Carolina's 1st District
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 23, 2026) — New Politics endorsed candidate Nancy Lacore has won the Democratic runoff for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District, securing the Democratic nomination. Lacore, a retired three-star admiral who served 35 years in the Navy, has the deep experience and compelling story that resonates with voters across the district. South Carolina's 1st Congressional District is a competitive seat and was recently shifted in Democrats’ direction by the Cook Political Report.
Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:
“Nancy Lacore’s 35 years of service to our country taught her how to lead under pressure and deliver for the people counting on her. When the Trump administration removed her from her post as Chief of the Navy Reserve without reason, she didn’t shy away from service. She raised her hand to run for Congress and serve again. The voters of SC-01 deserve a leader like Nancy who does not back down from a fight. New Politics is proud to stand with her heading into November and will do all we can to help her finish the job.”
