New Politics was with Conley from the start of her campaign, helping build her team and donor network to flip a Hudson Valley seat at the center of the fight for the House.

WASHINGTON D.C. (November 3, 2026) — New Politics endorsed candidate Cait Conley has defeated Republican Rep. Mike Lawler to win New York’s 17th Congressional District. A West Point graduate, Conley served as a decorated Army officer before joining the White House National Security Council.

New Politics first met with Conley in December 2024 and was one of her earliest organizational backers in her highly competitive primary. Cait went on to win a crowded five-way primary despite attacks from GOP dark money groups, and tonight she defeated Lawler in one of the most closely watched races in the country.

Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:

“Cait Conley decided to serve her country the day after 9/11, and she has not stopped since. When the stakes are highest, Cait shows up. Hudson Valley voters had a clear choice tonight, and they chose a leader who has put our country first her whole life. New Politics stood with her through a tough primary and an even tougher general election, and we are thrilled that she will help lead a new Democratic majority in Washington.”
