With New Politics in his corner from launch to Election Day, the former federal prosecutor defeats a Trump-endorsed opponent in a long-held Republican seat
WASHINGTON D.C. (November 3, 2026) — New Politics endorsed candidate Zach Dembo has won Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District, flipping the Central Kentucky seat left open by Republican Rep. Andy Barr. A Navy JAG Corps veteran, Dembo defeated a former Republican state senator in a hard-fought race.
New Politics has worked with Dembo since he launched his campaign in July 2025 and formally endorsed him that September — the first national organization to back him. New Politics advisors were heavily involved in his launch, helped place and train his team, and deployed to the district several times over the course of the cycle to support the campaign. The organization’s support was critical to Dembo’s upset primary victory over an establishment opponent, setting him up for success on Tuesday.
Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:
“For the first time in more than a decade, Central Kentucky is sending a Democrat to Congress. Zach Dembo taught kids in the Mississippi Delta, served in the Navy, and went after civil rights violations at the Justice Department. Every one of those jobs was about putting other people first. That’s what servant leadership looks like, and it’s the same instinct he’ll bring to Washington. New Politics has stood with Zach since the very beginning of his campaign, and his win is a critical step in Democrats’ fight to take back the House.”
