High school was an incredibly frustrating experience for me. I wanted to do, not sit. Thankfully I found City Year, an AmeriCorps program. The year fundamentally changed my life – both my sense of responsibility to our country and belief in my own ability to effect change.
So much so that I spent 10 years working to make a year of service part of growing up in America. We’d be living in a different country if far more young Americans spent time in service to others.
We’d also be living in a different country if those who served were the ones in elected office. That’s what inspired me to be a part of New Politics from the early days, to serve as a campaign manager for a congressional race, and now help lead our communications and new strategic plan.
The best response to more need isn’t caution – it’s courage. I’m inspired that New Politics – the team, supporters, and our community – are stepping up to answer this moment with our boldest goals since starting 12 years ago.

Our political system was built by people – it can be rebuilt by people with the values and courage our nation deserves.
It's easy to underestimate small teams. Up against big systems, big budgets, and powerful actors invested in the status quo. But our country's history tells a different story.
What actually moves things: a simple idea, taken seriously, pursued with intensity over a long time horizon. That combination is rarer than it sounds, and more powerful than most people expect. The hard part isn't the idea. It's the discipline to stay focused when the noise gets loud or setbacks create doubt.
But a deep belief – almost delusional – that long-term commitment compounds in ways that can change the systems that once felt intractable.
That's what we're doing at New Politics – and what we truly believe is possible is right there in the name.
