AFTER 35 YEARS IN THE NAVY, NEW POLITICS-BACKED NANCY LACORE FLIPS SOUTH CAROLINA’S 1ST CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

When Nancy Lacore’s Navy career was cut short by Pete Hegseth, she had every reason to step away from public life. Instead, she found a new way to serve. We’re honored to have backed her campaign and know she’ll serve South Carolina’s 1st District with the same integrity she’s shown her whole career.

The former Chief of Navy Reserve, removed from her post by Pete Hegseth, wins a Republican-leaning coastal seat left open by Nancy Mace.

WASHINGTON D.C. (November 4, 2026) — New Politics endorsed candidate Nancy Lacore has won South Carolina's 1st Congressional District, flipping the open seat vacated by Rep. Nancy Mace. Lacore served 35 years in the Navy, rising from helicopter pilot to Chief of Navy Reserve, where she led more than 60,000 sailors.

New Politics has backed Lacore since her campaign launch and served as a hands-on advisor and coach to her campaign throughout the cycle. A member of the DCCC's Red to Blue program, Lacore built a bipartisan coalition across the district to flip a seat Republicans redrew in 2022 to keep in their hands. Her win helped secure the new Democratic House majority.

Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:

“When Nancy Lacore’s Navy career was cut short by Pete Hegseth, she had every reason to step away from public life. Instead, she found a new way to serve. Nancy spent 35 years leading people through hard missions, and she raised six kids while doing it. We’re honored to have backed her campaign and know she’ll serve South Carolina’s 1st District with the same integrity she’s shown her whole career.”
