Sarah Trone Garriott
Sarah Trone Garriott’s call to service began as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Gallup, New Mexico, fresh out of college. It led her to serve as a hospital chaplain and become ordained as a Lutheran minister. As a minister, she served parishes in a small town, a rural community, and suburban Des Moines. Now she works to bring folks of all backgrounds together to help our neighbors in need at a local food pantry network, and serves her neighbors in the Iowa State Senate. She is the only Iowa Democrat to flip two districts from red to blue — beating then Republican State Senate President Jake Chapman after redistricting drew her into a new seat in 2022 — and she held onto her seat even as Donald Trump carried it in 2024. From her service in AmeriCorps to her current work as a Lutheran Minister and Iowa State Senator, Sarah has always brought people together — across faiths, across parties, and across communities — to deliver real results. Now she’s running for Congress to make Iowa affordable for middle-class families.
