Endorsement: Don Davis for Congress (NC-02)

WASHINGTON D.C.—New Politics today endorsed educator, minister, and US Air Force veteran Don Davis for Representative in North Carolina’s Second Congressional District. Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics released the following statement:

“Our country is in desperate need of leaders who wake up every day looking for new opportunities to serve and Don Davis has been doing just that his entire career. As an Airman, minister, and public servant, Don has been a consistent champion for working families, and he’s pushed those around him to put the good of the whole before their own self-interest. Don Davis is the courageous, battle-tested servant leader that eastern North Carolina deserves, and we’re proud to support his campaign to be their next representative in Washington.”

About Don Davis
Don Davis was born and raised in rural Snow Hill, North Carolina. After growing up working in the tobacco fields, Don attended the United States Air Force Academy and was commissioned as an officer, and served in uniform for 8 years. There, Don coordinated Air Force One operations at Andrews Air Force Base and supported families of military members killed in action as a mortuary officer. While stationed at Air Force ROTC Detachment 600, Don returned to eastern North Carolina as an assistant professor of Aerospace Studies at East Carolina University instructing national security affairs and leadership courses. He earned his doctorate in education and has continued to teach and mentor students for 20 years. Upon leaving the Air Force, Don continued his commitment to public service - becoming the youngest Mayor of his hometown, Snow Hill, at age 29. As Mayor, Don focused on re-building the local economy and investing in essential infrastructure projects – like high-speed internet. In his six terms as a Senator in the state legislature, Don has served as a champion for eastern North Carolina, fighting for our rural communities and delivering results for our families. In his tenure, Don fought and won teacher pay raises, a $1 billion investment to expand high-speed internet access, tax exemptions for military pensions, and $215 million in funding for the ECU Brody School of Medicine which serves the surrounding 19 rural counties. Don is running for Congress to fight for eastern North Carolina and take our values to Washington. He lives in Greene County, NC, with his wife Yuvonka and three sons: Ryan, Justin, and Kyler.
