KATE RUMSEY

Candidate for State House, Texas’ 115th District
Service:
Air Force Reserve

Throughout her childhood, Kate watched her parents engage with Texas legislators in an attempt to save their community pharmacy whose mission was to serve children on Medicaid– a battle they ultimately lost, largely due to Republican obstruction of Medicaid expansion. That experience, however, solidified in Kate a spirit of prioritizing others and fighting for her community.

As a result, Kate has spent her life’s work serving and protecting her community – both as a federal prosecutor and as a JAG officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

Kate took on fentanyl and methamphetamine traffickers, fought against fraud and public corruption, prosecuted child pornographers, and saw first-hand the extent of gun crimes plaguing our country in her work as a prosecutor. For this service, Kate has received several awards, including a Special Commendation from the U.S. Attorney General.

Kate’s calling to military service began in the aftermath of 9/11, which occurred during her freshman year at the University of Notre Dame. Years later, after attending law school at NYU, Kate realized that goal and was commissioned in 2017. As a JAG officer in the Air Force Reserves, Kate advises commanders and provides free legal advice to Airmen and veterans.

Kate currently lives in Coppell, not too far from where she grew up, with her husband, David – himself an active-duty Army officer for 12 years and now a reservist. She has a daughter, Vivienne, and a stepson, Alex. Kate is blessed with her daughter through in vitro fertilization and is a vocal advocate for access to reproductive rights.

Kate is running to fight for the district that made her the woman she is today and to advocate for the community where she is raising her family. She will use her experience and service background to champion women’s reproductive rights, pass common sense gun safety reform, fix the grid, and fund public schools.
