CONGRESSMAN JARED GOLDEN

Maine’s 2nd District
Service:
U.S. Marine Corps

Jared Golden represents Maine’s Second Congressional District in Congress. Jared was born and raised in Leeds, Maine, a small dairy farm town of about 2,000 people. As a teenager, he attended Leavitt Area High School and worked at a local pizza restaurant. In 2002, after spending a year at the University of Maine, Farmington, Jared joined the Marine Corps infantry in response to the September 11th attacks. He served combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

After returning home to Maine, Jared attended Bates College. After graduating, he worked for an international logistics firm and then for Sen. Susan Collins on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee where he led efforts to reauthorize the FIRE/SAFER Grants in 2012.

Eager to get back to Maine, Jared returned home in 2013 to work for the House Democratic Office in the Maine Legislature. As a Democrat, Jared ran and was elected to the Maine House in 2014, representing the city of Lewiston. Before being elected to Congress, Jared served his peers to serve as the Assistant Majority Leader.

Today, Jared and Isobel live in Lewiston.
