COUNCILOR HENRY SANTANA

Boston City Council At-Large
Service:
Community Organizer

Henry Santana was born in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to Boston at a young age. Growing up in public housing in Mission Hill, Henry attended Boston Public Schools and spent his time playing baseball at Marcella Park.

One of the defining moments of Henry’s life was the sudden loss of his oldest brother in a car accident in 2016. Henry and his older brother were very close, and this tragedy reminded Henry how important it is to make a lasting impact on the world with the time you have left.

Henry found ways to give back to the community that gave him so much. He spent over 15 years with the Mission Hill Summer Program, starting as a student and later becoming a counselor and eventually the program director. As an immigrant and first-generation college graduate, Henry quickly realized how inaccessible and unfair the systems that represent us can be, and he decided to pursue a career helping others.

After graduating from Lasell University, Henry dove head-first into public service. He worked as an Aide to Councilor Kenzie Bok, serving as a liaison to Mission Hill and Fenway. Most recently, Henry served as Mayor Michelle Wu’s Director of Civic Organizing, where he worked to eliminate barriers to civic engagement and expand opportunities for everyone to be involved in their communities.

Now, Henry Santana is running for Boston City Council At-Large because he believes that our community needs leaders who are dedicated to creating a better future for all of its members. He’s committed to using his voice to advocate for equity, justice, and opportunity, and to working collaboratively with others to build a better Boston for all.
