Tara served eight years on active duty in the US Army and now serves as a reservist supporting special operations forces in Africa. She is currently finishing a dual degree Masters program at Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP) studying the intersection of conflict and urbanization in Africa.  She is the president of Columbia SIPA Veterans Program and a 2017 Pat Tillman Scholar.
