Philip Du was born and raised in Chengdu, China and came to America as an adolescent. Currently residing in Wappingers Falls, NY, Phillip assimilated to his home in America right away. He worked hard as a student and graduated from Arizona State University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
During his university years, Phillip Du was elected twice to the Student Senate where he became more interested in matters of policy and governance. He focused his work in that student legislative body toward reconstructing a more transparent and efficient College Council. As a result of that work, Philip was able to expose the misuse and waste of student funding to the tune of several hundred thousand dollars. Not only was he able to help improve accountability at this institution, Philip also developed some legislative chops as a student Senator. He was regarded as one of most highly productive legislators. He drafted dozens of pieces of legislation covering all aspect of campus life and social issues.
Phillip is a proven problem solver with a track record for doggedly pursuing the people’s interest. Through his experiences, Philip discovered a passion for public service which led him to join the United States Army as a Dental Specialist. Disciplined and skilled at handling high stress situations, Philip’s skill set are a great asset to any profession. He believes this is especially true when handling matters of the greater good such as public service. Philip’s experience in the Army helped Philip forge better leadership skills and also be of service to his fellow service members by providing the best care possible.
During his service in the military, Philip was awarded the Army Achievement Medal (3rd award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Medal.
A disability resulting from his service concluded Philip’s military career. He chose to begin a new chapter in his life in the Hudson Valley area of New York and moved to Wappingers Falls. Currently, Philip is pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree from CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice while embracing and adapting to civilian life as a disabled veteran in the Town of Wappinger.
Phillip Du believes in the promise of the “American Dream” and he is living proof that hope is alive and well.
