New Politics’ 20 House challengers include one-third of the DCCC’s Red to Blue list, and longtime New Politics candidates James Talarico and David Crowley are running to make history in Texas and Wisconsin
WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 29, 2026) — With five days until Election Day, New Politics is backing 20 servant leaders running for the House in some of the most competitive districts in the country, along with James Talarico for U.S. Senate in Texas, David Crowley for Governor of Wisconsin, and 10 House incumbents. New Politics-backed candidates make up one-third of the DCCC’s Red to Blue list, the party’s top House targets, who are primed to help flip the House Tuesday.
New Politics’ 20 House challengers have proven to be some of the strongest candidates in the country this cycle, with profiles that have resonated with independent and moderate voters and set them up to flip critical swing districts. Many won highly competitive primaries with New Politics’ early support and investment. New Politics candidates are some of the cycle’s top fundraisers, and have raised more than their peers in other Red to Blue races by an average of 21% over the cycle; in the last FEC filing period, 19 of 20 out-raised their GOP opponents. New Politics has raised over $2 million in hard-side contributions for endorsed candidates this cycle.
Since July, the Cook Political Report has moved 14 of New Politics’ 20 House races toward Democrats, and 11 are now rated Toss Up or better.
The 20 New Politics-backed House challengers are:
- AZ-06: JoAnna Mendoza
- CA-48: Marni von Wilpert
- CO-04: Eileen Laubacher
- CO-05: Jessica Killin
- CT-01: Luke Bronin
- FL-07: Bale Dalton
- FL-13: Leela Gray
- FL-22: Pia Dandiya
- IA-03: Sarah Trone Garriott
- KY-06: Zach Dembo
- MI-01: Callie Barr
- MT-01: Sam Forstag
- NE-01: Chris Backemeyer
- NJ-07: Rebecca Bennett
- NY-17: Cait Conley
- OH-10: Kristina Knickerbocker
- PA-08: Paige Cognetti
- SC-01: Nancy Lacore
- VA-02: Elaine Luria
- WI-01: Mitchell Berman
At the top of the ticket, two longtime New Politics candidates are running to make history. James Talarico would be the first Democrat elected to the Senate from Texas since 1988, and David Crowley would be Wisconsin’s first Black governor. New Politics first backed Crowley in a 2015 race for Milwaukee City Council and Talarico in his first run for the Texas House in 2018.
Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics, released the following statement:
“New Politics servant leaders are going to be key to flipping the House on Tuesday, and we can’t wait to see James Talarico in the U.S. Senate and David Crowley become the next governor of Wisconsin. These candidates spent their lives serving their country and their communities long before they ran for office, and voters trust them for it. From James Talarico and David Crowley at the top of the ticket to our 20 House challengers, many in districts the experts wrote off at the beginning of the cycle, servant leaders are ready to win. When Democrats flip the House and take Texas and Wisconsin next week, these leaders will be a big reason why.”
While the national environment favors Democrats, New Politics candidates have expanded the map this cycle by competing in districts that experts wrote off and where traditional politicians would be unable to move the needle. Americans consistently rank healthcare workers, teachers, and military officers among the most trusted professions — and those are the backgrounds New Politics recruits and backs.
New Politics gets behind servant leaders early and works alongside their campaigns from launch through Election Day. Its advisors help candidates build their fundraising operations, hire and train staff, sharpen their message, and organize in their districts.
That approach helped Democrats win the House in 2018, when seven New Politics-backed candidates flipped Republican-held seats, including Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger, who went on to win governorships in 2025. Two of those 2018 candidates, Reps. Jason Crow (CO-06) and Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), are among the 10 incumbents New Politics is backing this year, along with Reps. Derek Tran (CA-45), Jake Auchincloss (MA-04), Maggie Goodlander (NH-02), Herb Conaway (NJ-03), Pat Ryan (NY-18), Don Davis (NC-01), Chris Deluzio (PA-17), and Eugene Vindman (VA-07). A third, Elaine Luria, is running to win back Virginia’s 2nd District.
