Endorsement: Jay Chen for Congress (CA-39)

WASHINGTON D.C.—New Politics today endorsed Navy veteran, educator, and community leader Jay Chen to represent California’s 39th Congressional District. Emily Cherniack, Founder and Executive Director of New Politics released the following statement:

“Throughout his life and career, Jay Chen has embodied the entrepreneurial spirit that defines so many first-generation Americans like him. He has served his country faithfully in uniform both at home and abroad, and he continues to empower his Southern California neighbors through his work as President of the Board of Trustees at Mt. San Antonio College. In Congress, Jay will bring his tireless work ethic and courageous servant leadership to Washington, put partisan politics aside, and do everything in his power to help California families thrive. New Politics is so proud to endorse him in his campaign to represent California's 39th Congressional District.”

About Jay Chen
Jay Chen is the President of the Board of Trustees for Mt. San Antonio Community College, a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves, and a small business owner. The child of immigrants from Taiwan, Jay attended Hacienda Heights public schools and earned a Navy ROTC scholarship to attend Harvard University. After studying at Peking University on fellowship, he joined a global strategy consulting firm, where he worked extensively with Fortune 500 businesses in the software and logistics industries to manage mergers, build new products, and streamline operations before moving home and starting his own local real estate business. As President of the Hacienda-La Puente School Board, he created innovative programs, including Mandarin language immersion classes, a culinary arts program, and free SAT tutoring. He has also utilized his experience as a Harvard admissions interviewer to provide free college application workshops to students so that they can improve their higher education opportunities. Jay has served honorably from the Korean peninsula to the Middle East. As part of Operation Inherent Resolve Lieutenant Commander (res.) Chen led an intelligence team and helped bring justice to the terror group ISIS, and he played a key role in the military’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Middle East. Jay and his wife Karen live in Hacienda Heights where they are raising their two boys Lincoln and Carver.
