Blog: March Campaigns Update
This month, we welcome the spring and say goodbye to the first fundraising quarter. In that spirit, our March campaigns update offers an inside look at why fundraising quarterly deadlines matter, an ask to donate, and some other updates from our world. Thanks as always for reading!

IT'S THE END OF THE QUARTER; SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!
We’re at the end of a quarter, which, if you follow campaigns, means one thing: last minute fundraising emails! In fact, we imagine this email is sandwiched between a few others asking you to donate before the end of this “crucial” quarter. So before we ask you to invest in our candidates (and we’re about to in a few seconds), we want to offer a thought on why these quarterly deadlines play such a big role in these campaigns.
Quarterly fundraising numbers really do matter. Candidates report money raised every three months, and those results are key public markers that signal the health of a campaign and they’re important not just because of the topline fundraising number, but because they give a window into the number of donors who have given, where they are, and how the campaign is spending money, among other data-points. These all help paint an important picture about a candidate that, although it isn’t the end all be all, is certainly helpful.
OK, but why all the urgency around the deadline, and where was the urgency a few weeks ago? Isn’t a dollar today the same as a dollar a month ago? The short answer is yes, but the longer answer is that deadlines are a huge incentive. People often put things off until they’re facing a deadline (not unique to campaign giving), so campaigns know to ask more as the clock ticks down.
All that is to say: we have some great New Politics candidates at their first quarter deadlines who we hope you’ll consider supporting!
Dan McCready is facing down a big new election in North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District. (Check out this great New York Times profile of him from last week)
Dan Helmer in northern Virginia is running for State Delegate.
All of their races are this year; so the time is now!
NEW POLITICS MAKES THIRD DOWN-BALLOT ENDORSEMENT OF THE ELECTION CYCLE: FORMER MARINE AND TEACHER, DEB CIAMACCA, RUNNING FOR STATE REP. IN PA
We were thrilled on Friday to announce our support for Deb Ciamacca, a former Marine and a teacher who is running for state representative in Pennsylvania’s 168th District. We’re supporting Deb for a pretty simple reason: she’s dedicated her life to serving her community and country, and she would bring a wealth of experience and purpose to the State Legislature. We’ve gotten to know Deb well over the last few months since she first reached out to us, and we’re proud to endorse her. Check her out at DebCiamacca.com!
EMILY SPEAKS AT THE 2019 UNRIG SUMMIT
This past Friday, Emily was in Nashville to speak at the Unrig Summit, a national conference that brings together leaders from across the political spectrum around the goal of “solving our nation’s political crisis.” Emily introduced New Politics Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) to the crowd, and later gave a “spark talk” about her path from national service to politics, the movement of servant leaders who changed the face of Congress last November, and why it’s so important to our country that we continue to build our bench of political servant leaders in the months and years to come.
