Ruel’s first experience with AmeriCorps was in 2015 when he served as a member with NYC Emergency Management. His term of service focused on fostering safer communities within the New York City area. This led to his current position as an AmeriCorps Coordinator within the Office of the Mayor of New York City. As a Coordinator he creates volunteer partnerships between nonprofit organization throughout New York City and manages active AmeriCorps members during their terms of service. At present, Ruel is pursuing a Master’s of Public Administration at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He avidly believes that by volunteering in their communities’ people can gain intrinsic value in their lives. Ruel pursued a double major of Sociology and African and Latino Studies at SUNY Oneonta; it was here that he discovered his passion for public service.
