ANGEL CARROLL

Candidate for State House, Texas’ 52nd District

Angel Carroll is a House District 52 native and passionate advocate who draws from her experiences in the juvenile justice and child welfare system to inform and improve outcomes for system-involved individuals. She began her advocacy as an undergraduate testifying before the Texas Supreme Court and Texas Criminal Court of Appeals to push for creating a state-level commission to bridge together experts, judges, and policymakers to develop common sense solutions for a broken system. As a result, they established the Judicial Commission on Mental Health, where Angel served on their Collaborative Council for the past five years. She then designed an award-winning alternative to the incarceration program in Williamson County and was appointed to the Texas Juvenile Justice Advisory Board at only 23 years old.

Upon earning her B.A. in Communications from Texas Tech University, Angel returned to Williamson County with a clear vision to give back to the community that raised her, collaborating with nonprofit organizations and government agencies and advising on best practices when dealing with vulnerable populations. Concurrently, she assisted men seeking educational degrees and certificates by teaching career and professional development in a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility, equipping them with essential skills before and after their release.

Angel has spent the last decade as a fierce advocate for local and statewide policies focusing on public education, mental health services, criminal justice reform, and civil rights. After seeing the many destructive and dangerous pieces of legislation passed in the 88th State Legislature, Angel knew she had to run. Grounded in the belief that House District 52 deserves a servant leader who will legislate from direct experience and proximity to some of our most complex issues, Angel is running to put the community's needs before politics and herself.
